Mom loved to make the most delicious homemade strawberry preserves.  This was a treat she'd regularly share with all the members of the family.  

As her illness progressed, that effort became exceedingly difficult for her.  She made her last batch of strawberry preserves just a few weeks before her cancer surgery. 

I still have a jar from that batch in my refrigerator.  It's simply labeled "Stwb 4/3/05".   We're going through that last jar sparingly, but it is now almost gone.

I had some today on a biscuit.  The date is now one year later.   It tasted as delicious as ever.   I think what made her preserves taste so good was not the flavor of the strawberries, it was the special ingredient she put in every single jar that she made. 

That ingredient was love.

Even today, as I enjoyed my warm buttermilk biscuit with my special strawberry preserves, I still taste the love.
