Tonight, mom was too ill to go to the dining room of the Assisted Living facility.
I brought her food in the room. We ate together in her tiny living room area of her small apartment. She called it our “picnic”.

She doesn’t get to see much of the “outdoors” any more. Every morning, I try to encourage her to let me wheel her out the front doors of the facility so that she can breathe some fresh air, and see the morning sky. Sometimes she feels like it, sometimes not.

There we were, this evening having a “picnic” in her living room. Nothing special really. I think of a picnic as being outdoors. I think of cookouts, kids playing, kite flying, playing fetch with our dog. I don’t think of TV trays, dim rooms, and an oxygen machine pumping oxygen. But yes, mom was right. Tonight we had a picnic. I think it was one of the most memorable picnics I will ever have.
