Frequently Asked Question - F.A.Q.
Q: Do you have a studio?
A: Yes! I have a 1000 square foot studio 11740 Jollyville in
Northwest Austin, plus I also can do most any type of photography on
location as well!
Q: What should I wear for my photo
session?
A: Dress according to the type of photograph you are wanting to
achieve. Generally if you are wearing clothing that is
flattering and you look your best, you will also feel more confident
in front of a camera. Choose matching solids.
Avoid patterns. Medium toned to darker colors work well if we are doing a
photo shoot in front of dark backgrounds or in darker settings.
Lighter colors work well for outdoor settings. Long sleeves
work well because bare arms can distract from the face. Of course it
depends on time of year, if we are doing an outdoor shoot.
Choose comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement and
natural positioning. If we are doing a longer photo shoot with
multiple changes of clothing, we will plan on a location where you
may change clothes easily.
Q: Should I do my own makeup?
A: You certainly may, if you know what you're doing. A professional
makeup artist is knowledgeable about special needs regarding
photography and the reflective properties of certain makeup
products. I work with a very talented makeup artist who does
great work. If you wish to have them do your makeup, just let
me know. (There is an extra charge for this, of course.)
Q: What are your rates?
A: I have a web page that explains everything about my rates!

Q: May I pay with a credit card?
A: For your convenience, yes, you may pay online using your credit
card or PayPal account. Click

Q: What kind of equipment do you use?
A: I use high quality Canon photographic equipment. All images
are 10.1 megapixel digital images. What really affects the
quality of an image is the optics! My lenses are of the very
finest quality such as the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L Series, Canon EF
70-200mm f/2.8 L Series IS, Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di
1:1 Macro lens, Canon 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM, and a few others.
I use constant color temperature Photogenic Solaire monolights for
my studio lighting.
Q: May I bring a friend with me to the
photo shoot?
A: Certainly!
Q: Do you do weddings?
A: No, sorry, at this time I do not do weddings. I do bridal
and engagement photos though.
Q: What if I don't like the photos
you took of me?
A: My objective is to create images that you will love.
Since any art form is subjective, what one person likes may not be
what someone else likes. Especially with portraits, we
may see ourselves differently from how others see us. My
deepest desire with any portrait photo shoot is to create an image
that you feel good about, that depicts you at your best.
If you have reviewed my gallery of my work, you can get a sense of
the styles of photography I can do, and how I often pose and arrange
lighting. It's always possible we might not come up with a
photo YOU love. Once we do the photo shoot, you will
have an opportunity to review the proofs. If you just don't
like any of the images, you are not obligated to make a purchase
of an image. In fact, you do not even have to pay
the remainder of the session fee beyond the prepaid booking deposit.
OR we can book a re-shoot. In order to purchase any
images though, you will be obligated to pay the session fee for the
original photo shoot (but not for the re-shoot).
Important: The time to book a re-shoot is prior to purchasing any
images. After you have purchased images, I am always
happy to do more work for you, but another shoot would be considered
a completely separate booking at my regular rates. If
the photo shoot was done at a venue that charges their own session
fee, you will unfortunately be responsible for paying that fee
again.
Q: Can I just purchase a CD with
all of the images from the session, unretouched?
A: I try to maintain a a high standard of quality for all images
released as a photograph by Kevin Gourley. That
standard of quality is importan to me, and in order to maintain that
standard of quality, while also trying to keep prices reasonable, I
prefer to offer a means of licensing the images you like the most
and then retouching and perfecting them to make them the best images
possible. Therefore I do not sell CD's with unretouched images
from a session.
Q: For Commercial photography, will
you work in a "work for hire" arrangement where my business can hire
you and my business directly owns the copyrights to all images that
you take?
A: No, sorry, I do not generally accept "work for hire"
arrangements. My work is all done as an "Independent
Contractor" and I retain all copyrights to images taken, but I do
offer means of licensing usage rights for all types of photography.
My reasons for not accepting "work for hire" arrangements are in
accordance with the
Professional Photographer's Association position statement on Work
for Hire.
Q: In order for you to come onto my
company's premises for a photo shoot, they require that you carry
professional liability insurance. Are you insured?
A: Yes! Absolutely!
