| A Deeper Level of Living
Nov 16, 2005 Copyright (c) 2005 Kevin Gourley. All rights reserved. It has been an interesting experience, as I've been journaling and sharing my reflections on life. As people have written to me, sharing words of encouragement or telling me of their own experiences of their loss of a loved one, I have been blessed by a sense of "connectedness" with them at a deeper level. Our normal daily living is often comprised of busywork and activities, and our interactions are limited to superficial dialogs and we don't talk at a deeper level about the things that are most meaningful in life. All it takes is someone daring to go beyond the superficial, and you can enter a whole new realm of discussion, one where it is ok to have fears, ok to share tears, ok to feel, ok talk about what really matters. In the end, what will matter more about our lives, is not the wealth we've accumulated or the length of our resume or size of our home. What will matter is how we loved. When we die, what flashes before our eyes is more likely to be the people we have loved, not the things we have owned. As I talk to others who have been through their own loss of loved ones, it has been a blessing to hear their stories. I know there are many others who relate to what I have written, because they have told me so. Life can be so hard at times. Pain is unavoidable. But one thing about this that I am especially thankful for is the opportunity to live more "deeply" and to dialog with others at a deeper level. It all serves as a vivid reminder that life is best lived at this deeper level.
