My what a beautiful morning this is.
I left mom briefly to go out and get a cup of coffee.
The air is crisp and cool. The sky beautiful and clear.

As I walked back into the facility where my mom rests in her bed,
I feel such a sense of gratitude for this day.
In fact, as she approaches the end of her life,
this leads me to a greater awareness of what
a tremendous gift this is… “life”.

To be able to feel the morning air,
To see a beautiful sunrise,
To smile and laugh with friends,
To be able to even walk on your own,
To savor the aroma of a hot cup of coffee,
To just live.

For all of this, I am thankful.

Now back inside Mom’s room, I just wish I could give
her all of life’s wonders. I wish I could even take her outside
to experience this splendid morning. But she is too weak.

Lest I forget, she has already experienced life in its fullness.
Yet another thing I am grateful for.

I appreciate this beautiful morning, even though
I can’t share it with Mom.
I will remember, to cherish every beautiful morning
and the gift it brings.

For today, my mission is to sit by her bedside,
and remind her how much she is loved.
