I drove up to visit my family
In my home town today.

My journey was also to visit the grave of my mom and dad.

This was my first trip back since my mom's
death in October.

The road was so familiar, from my many travels to go up there to help Mom or just to be with her.  But this time, the drive felt so different.   In the passenger seat, sat the pink carnations I would be placing on their graves.

Soft drizzle fell, in the cool February air, as a grey filled the Winter sky.  There was no sunshine.  An intermittent sweep of the wiper gave a clearer view through the windshield, only to be quickly blurred again.  The weather, fitting the mood, seemed "right" on this return trip home.

Now at the graveside.  I reflect on the precious memories I will always carry with me, of my wonderful parents.  With a grateful heart, I place the flowers at their graves.

Mom and Dad, thank you for all of the ways you showed me love.  Thank you for being two wonderful people.  Thank you for being my parents.  Thank you for life.

Thank you.

Dad, I am sorry your life ended so long ago.  I have missed you for so many years.  I wish you could have seen my precious daughters grow up into the wonderful young ladies they have become. 

Mom, I will always cherish our special times we had together, especially in these final two years of your life.

What a blessing you both were to me.

Every precious memory I carry with me is still a blessing.
