One week ago, on October 26th,
My mom died at 9:42am.

In the days and hours approaching her death,
We waited at her bedside.
Almost counting each breath.

The clock ticked.
Each second, counting off
What was left for her life.

As we go about our normal everyday lives,
Oh, how we take these seconds for granted.
They make up the minutes
Which make up the hours
Which make up the days
Which make up the years, of our lives.

I will appreciate these seconds,
For they are the moments in which "life" happens.

By the time 9:43 arrived, my mother's world, my family's world, and my world had changed forever.  What a difference a minute can make.

When we leave this world, it happens in just a fleeting moment.
But that is also how we live, in just a series of fleeting moments.

My prayer for me, and for you, is that our
Moments be filled with meaning and purpose,
That they be used to make this world a better place,
To show love to a fellow human being,
To express generosity to a neighbor,
To stand against injustice,
To be all God intends us to be.
